Arrow GLOSSARY OF TERMS used in the Freebie Trading Industry

GLOSSARY

There is an incredible amount of jargon associated with freebie trading, and you may sometimes wish to look up a specific term. It's a good idea to glance over these so you have some familiarity with them.

affiliate - The middleman between the Offer Company and the IFW site. When you click on an offer it is redirected through the affiliate company and they give us credit for completing the offers and pay the IFW for each credited lead.

yellow status - When you've signed up for a site, have your own referral link, but you have not completed the offer requirements.

approval - Refers to someone completing all site requirements, and approved to claim their final Prize.

avatar - Small graphic (icon/picture) that is a user's representation of himself or herself on a forum and other communities.

banned - Having your account disabled on a forum, usually for a rule violation. The ban can be either permanent or temporary depending on the severity of the offense.

bump - BUMP stands for "Bring Up My Post". Whenever a reply is made to a thread on an internet forum, the reply causes the thread to move to the top of the list of threads, or bumps it to the top. Sometimes people will reply to their thread for this sole purpose. Typically, you are allowed to BUMP your trade thread twice per day.

cc - credit card required; no cc is no credit card required. Most offers require the use of a credit or debit card. There are some sites that are no-cc sites. However, these do not count towards your iTrader Rating on most forums.

clear cache or clear cookies - Clearing cookies in your browser is important to do before logging in to a freebie site to ensure that the crediting process works properly, and you can get paid.

cookie - A small bit of electronic tracking information stored on your computer. A site cookie is stored when you log into a site and click on the offer page. An offer cookie is stored after you are redirected to a specific offer page. Both cookies help you receive credit for doing the offer. It iss the means of communication between the offer sites and the IFW's.

crediting - The process of getting your completed offer credited to your account on the freebie site. After you complete an offer, there is usually a short wait before the offer shows up as being credited to your account. (This is a subject that can merit further discussion with your mentor, or can perhaps be expanded on in this thread. i.e. Offers that indicate instant credit can sometimes take 24 hrs. or more, if an offer doesn't credit within a certain amount of time, perhaps you can file a MCR, Manual Credit Request.)

DIY Site - Do It Yourself or Points Site. These sites do not require you to refer anyone. You get incentives for just signing up and completing offers on yourself.

Forever Green/Repeatable - Same as "ever green". When a Freebie/IFW site is forever green/repeatable, it simply means once you complete the offer requirements once, you may send an unlimited number of referrals to that site to receive your prize (or cashout) over and over again.

free green - Sometimes a network will grant you green status on a site without requiring you to do an offer. All you have to do is get referrals.

G4G - Stands for Green for Green. This is where two people complete the offer requirments on each others sites. There is no money exchanged between the two traders involved, but both parties receive their payment from "cashing-out", or (collecting their prize), on the site that their partner went green for them on. This is a much more profitable way of going green on a site, as you make 100% of the per referral payout instead of just 50%.

green - When you have completed the basic offer requirements for a specific freebie site--you are referred to as having "gone green".

hijacking - contacting someone who replied to someone else's trading thread. This is unethical and against forum rules.

IFW - Incentivized Freebie WebSite. Websites that give away cash and prizes to those who sign up and complete the offer requirements. This concept is quite simple. The IFW's get paid by advertisers for any person that completes the advertisers offer(s), which are found on the IFW's website. The IFW passes this payment onto you in the form of cash or a prize you've selected at the time you sign up at their website.

IP - Internet Protocol address, identifies your computer and its location through a numerical identification.

jump the fence - Start seeking referrals, (referring to as moving to Method II), instead of being paid to be a referral.

locked thread - Forum administrators and moderators can lock a thread, meaning it can no longer be replied to or bumped. This usually happens because of a rule violation or inappropriate behavior within a thread.

MCR - Manual Credit Request. If you complete an offer, and you didn't receive credit, you can often submit an MCR to the IFW, and they will investigate it further. Some IFW's allow for guaranteed crediting, and this request, in some instances, will be labeled a GCR (Guaranteed Credit Request).

Moderators - Those who enforce rules on a forum and help mediate and resolve disputes if and when they occur between forum members.

Mods - Short for Moderators.

network - Name of the company or parent site, like Money Bonanzas or Paradise Freebies. Most networks have multiple sites within the same network. You can sign up for each site within each network once. For example, the Moneybonanzas network has several sites as part of it's network: half.moneybonanzas, cash.moneybonanzas, gifts.moneybonanzas, etc.

offer - The advertising for a specific product or service that a sponsor company has on the freebie site. You can only do each offer once, no matter how many freebie sites carry that offer.

offer Requirement - Freebie sites require you to complete offers to qualify for their cashouts/prizes. This term refers to the amount of offer credits necessary to qualify. Some 1 credit sites only require 1 offer. Some 1 credit sites require 4 or more offers.

offer weight - Offers are assigned a weight, or an amount of credit that the offer is worth. For example, if a site's offer requirements are 1 full credit, you would have to do 3 separate offers weighted at 1/3 credits each to add up to 1 full credit and to meet the offer requirements.

PM - Private Message. This is the main, built-in messaging system of communicating with users via a forum.

PPD - Project Payday, a website that provides a freebie trader training program, as a method of making money from home. Many traders started with this program, and are PPD Mentors.

prize - An incentive that freebie sites offer you in exchange for completing the offer requirements and collecting all needed referrals. Most sites have a choice of PayPal cash, or prizes, i.e., computers, ipods, laptops, TV's, etc., and you can change your prize after you sign up.

red status - Also referred to as "going red". Having your account on a freebie site placed on hold, usually for violating the site's Terms of Service. You may not collect your prize, nor will your account be credited to the person who referred you to the site, unless the hold is lifted. Holds can easily be lifted, in many cases, once the proper information is submitted, unless you are a scammer, or for various reasons might be considered "high risk".

referral link - A sign-up link that is assigned to you when you sign up on a freebie site, that you give to other individuals to refer them. When someone signs up with your referral link, your accounts are linked permanently and the person then counts towards your referral requirements once they have "gone green".

referral value - The amount each referral is worth. Take the prize value and divide by the number of referrals. So for a $400 prize based on 10 referrals, the final referral value would be $40. The amount of cash someone will pay you to be their referral is usually half of that.

repeatable - Same as "forever green".

scamming - committing fraud, against another trader, a freebie site, a forum. Usually involves refusing to refund or obtaining money under false pretenses.

spamming - Making unsolicited contact with someone with the intent of trying to initiate a trade, or to advertise/market to them in any way.

sticky - On threaded discussion forums, a sticky is a thread, or post, that always stays at the top of the list of threads. They are often used by moderators for important announcements. Some forums offer advertising, for a few, by allowing you to have your trade thread "stickied" to the top of the paying for referrals sub-forum.

support ticket
- You sign into the freebie site, look for the help or support area, and leave a message about your problem/question on the site.

thread - A new topic post on a threaded discussion forum.

TOS - Terms of Service, or (Terms and Conditions, T&C), that contain all the terms and important details of a company's policies. You should always be reading the TOS of every site and offer before you sign up, paying special attention to the cancellation policy, and how long you have to cancel either a product, service or membership, if after giving it a fair trial, you elect not to keep it.

TM - Trade Manager, where trades are tracked on a forum.

TR - iTrader Rating, shows the number of trades someone has completed within a certain forum system, like Calistyle101.

trading thread - A message thread posted in a designated area of a forum, advertising what sites you are looking for referrals.

TraInn or TRAINN - Stands for Transcendental Innovations. One of the oldest freebie networks, and unrepeatable for the most part. Many traders use this site, as you can go green with just one offer.

Please feel free to add to these terms, or expand on these definitions. Terry
